LEAR at BRIGHTON FRINGE

Our wonderful new production of KING LEAR will be having its premiere at Brighton Fringe on 10, 11, 12 of May.

Our venue is The Warren : The Blockhouse as part of Otherplace Brighton.

In the lead up to this we have a number of previews in the SW. You can catch the show at

LEAR on the road

Our long awaited one-man adaptation of Shakespeare’s KING LEAR will be going out on the road this year and we are very excited about it!

We tried the show out with some preview audiences at the end of last year and the response was really amazing. Click HERE to see feedback trailer.

We will be back into rehearsals in a few weeks, with more preview shows coming up in Devon and Cornwall before previewing LEAR at the BRIGHTON FRINGE FESTIVAL in May where it will be running for 3 nights at THE BLOCKHOUSE theatre at The Warren.

New show!!

We are very pleased to announce that there is a new Oddbodies’ theatre show in production!

It has been a long time coming. For many different reasons we’ve been unable to tour for a number of years and have been concentrating more on film and visual arts projects rather than theatre.

So it is thrilling to have the old team back in the rehearsal room and to be making new work at last. Very much in the vein of our highly successful tw0-handed RICHARD III this new production is a one-man KING LEAR.

Adapted and performed by Paul Morel and directed by John Mowat with all of Oddbodies’ trademark physical ingenuity and visual flair, this is an inventive, irreverent and highly accessible take on one of Shakespeare’s most brilliant plays.

Armed with only a drum, a guitar, a knife and a chair, the tragic trajectory of Lear’s demise is presented to you from the point of view of his long suffering and ever-loyal fool.

The bastard Edmund, haughty Goneril, poor deluded Gloucester, oily Oswald, sweet Cordelia, mad Tom – all the characters from this sad and sorry tale brought to glorious life before your very eyes.

Blindness, betrayal, delusion, deceit, love, loyalty, lust and greed –it’s all here in this fast paced, funny, poignant and ultimately heartbreaking production.

Madman to screen at Cornwall Film Festival

We are thrilled to announce that DIARY OF A MADMAN been selected for the 15th Cornwall Film Festival. (www.cornwallfilmfestival.com)

It will be screening at The Poly, Falmouth on Saturday 5 November at 1.30pm, followed by a Q&A/Panel discussion.

SYNOPSIS

Poprishkin, a low ranking civil servant with ideas above his station, has fallen in love with the Director’s daughter. Coupled with delusions of grandeur and an inability to accept his lot in life, this obsession becomes a catalyst that sets him on the road to madness. A journey that is both absurdly funny and heartbreakingly tragic…

Adapted from the short story by the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, this beautifully filmed and stunningly performed portrait of one man’s decline into insanity is intimate, authentic and ultimately very moving.

Shot over a week in a single room with a cast of one and a crew of three, the story takes the form of a series of diary entries, each one shot in a continuous take. Interwoven with darkly unsettling hand drawn animations backed with increasingly disturbing soundscapes, the result is an utterly compelling piece that will stay with you long after you have finished watching.

We are thrilled to announce we finally have dates for the premiere screenings of our first feature-length film…

Diary Of A Madman chronicles the life of Poprishkin, a low ranking and deluded civil servant with ideas above his station, whose gradual decline into madness is both absurdly funny and heartbreakingly tragic.

Adapted from the short story by the Russian writer Nicholai Gogol, this beautifully filmed and stunningly performed portrait of one man’s journey into insanity is intimate, authentic and ultimately very moving.

First off, will be four screenings at WORK Gallery, (10A Acton Street, Kings Cross, LONDON WC1X 9NG) on Saturday 19th March, showing at 11.30AM, 2.30PM, 4.30PM and 7.30PM. (Seating is restricted so it’s best to RSVP us on 0ddbodies@me.com or text 07973 162087.)

THEN, we will be screening the film at the Exeter Phoenix’s superdooper new digital cinema, Studio 74 on Tuesday 22nd March at 7.30pm followed by a Q&A.
