Oddbodies was founded by John Mowat, Paul Morel and Tanya Scott-Wilson to create original new work for theatre, film and visual arts.

PAUL MOREL

After a foundation in art and design, Paul worked extensively as a musician in the UK and USA before training as an actor. He worked with numerous theatre companies before forming Oddbodies. He has co-devised and performed in all of the Company’s theatre work to date.

Specialising in the Michael Chekhov Technique, Paul has also worked as a regular workshop leader and director for numerous Drama Colleges around the UK.  Productions include  Moliere’s Loves the Best Doctor, Aristophanes’ The Birds, Farquard’s Beaux Strategem and Bukowski’s Scenes From A Buried Life. He has also created a number of devised works, including a circus adaptation of Lear for the  Auch Contemporary Circus Festival in France and a Tempest for the People’s Company, Theatre Royal, Plymouth.

As an actor, Paul has appeared in numerous feature films including The Salt Path, A Touch Of Magic, Dartmoor Killing and Secret Suitcase.  For Oddbodies, he wrote and directed the award-winning  Mrs Lustleigh’s Fancies , The Nature of Angrove,  A Penny For Them, and Mr Lamb. 

Paul is also the creative force behind  Ma Bain  who is responsible for all the original music and soundscape for Oddbodies’ film and visual arts projects.

TANYA SCOTT-WILSON

Tanya Scott-Wilson (Morel) trained as an actor and has performed with a number of companies with whom she has toured all over the UK, USA, Canada and Europe. She has worked on independent film and TV productions both in front of and behind the camera.

During a break from touring to start a family, Tanya went back to studying, and eventually graduated from the University College Falmouth  with a 1st class BA(Hons) in Fine Art. As well as leading workshops in animation, Tanya has run creative courses in schools, libraries and prisons, and is a registered DAISI artist. She also runs a weekly community choir, (Okehampton Wellbeing Singers).

Tanya has collaborated on all Oddbodies’ projects; performing in  all the theatre shows (except Rake’s and HONR which she co-directed, and LEAR) and all the short films. She has co-produced and ‘art directed’ all the Company’s films to date, including the feature length adaptation of Gogol’s Diary of a Madman and the most recent studio film of LEAR. JOHN MOWAT

John Mowat started his working life as an industrial welder before studying sculpture at the Royal Academy. He worked as a sculptor for the BBC, ENO, RSC and Madame Tussauds before he discovered theatre.

Mowat presented his first solo show in 1980. He has since devised, performed, directed and collaborated on projects that have taken him to over 40 countries around the world.

Mowat currently divides his time between the UK, Portugal and Brazil where he is involved with a number of Companies –  for whom, in his role as Artistic Director he has devised and directed numerous shows which have toured throughout Europe and South America.

As well as running his own classes and courses, Mowat is a guest teacher and director at a number of drama, dance and music colleges in the UK and Europe.  He has directed all Oddbodies’ Theatre shows (except HONR).
